Bolt Introduces Comfort Rides to Premium Passengers in Nairobi
Bolt Introduces Premium Service to the Middle-Class Riders in Nairobi
Bolt, the ride-hailing giant, has introduced a new category of service, Bolt Comfort, to cash in on the increasing need for high-quality transportation by the expanding middle class and professional commuters in Nairobi.
Introduced on Wednesday, Bolt Comfort offers a smoother ride experience with more spacious cars of the newer model (2016 and newer), air conditioning, and the ability to request a high-rated driver with at least 4.8 stars. It operates in areas that are in high demand, including the Nairobi CBD, Westlands, Kilimani, and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), with the average wait time being less than five minutes.
In an interview with Bolt Country Manager Linda Kanyankole, the new category is a response to the strategic shift of the company to capture the attention of the discerning passengers who value reliability, professionalism, and an added level of comfort. Our study reveals that there is a big demand from corporate and middle-income passengers riding to platforms that provide comfort, predictability, and professionalism. Bolt Comfort will fulfil precisely that need, she added.

Bolt estimates that the Comfort segment may comprise as much as 10 percent of its total trips by the close of 2025. There are also plans to increase the service to a citywide and into Kiambu County by December with a fleet of over 1,000 Comfort vehicles.
The new category will be offered at a competitive price, which is about 13 percent cheaper than a similar service on other platforms, making Bolt the platform that can take a larger piece of the Nairobi professional ride-hailing pie.
The drivers under the Bolt Comfort registration will also enjoy an increased earning capacity with the elevated fare prices and the high-value clients.
With the ongoing evolution of urban mobility in the Kenyan capital, Bolt notes that Comfort will fill the gap between affordability and luxury, adding to the needs of the professionals, business people and corporate workers that have increased in the city.
