Casemiro to Leave Manchester United This Summer After Contract Expires

Manchester United have confirmed that Casemiro will leave the club when his contract expires this summer, after the club decided not to trigger a one-year extension.

The decision comes as part of United’s plans to refresh their midfield ahead of a summer squad overhaul. The club aims to recruit younger players for long-term stability, while Casemiro’s departure will free up significant funds, given his weekly wages of approximately £430,000.

Potential targets for Manchester United’s midfield include Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

Casemiro, who joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 for £70 million, requested the announcement of his exit this month to allow him to explore his next move. The 34-year-old midfielder plans to continue playing professionally after representing Brazil at the World Cup, with reported interest from Major League Soccer, Saudi Arabian clubs, and teams in Brazil.

“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” Casemiro said. “From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love I now share with our supporters. It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. During his time in the Premier League, Casemiro won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, scoring the opening goal in the 2023 Carabao Cup final against Newcastle. He made 146 appearances for United, scoring 21 goals, and leaves having made a lasting impact on the club despite a challenging period.
