England World Cup Camp Shaken by Powerful Earthquake in Florida
6.1-Magnitude Earthquake Disrupts England’s World Cup Build-Up
England’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup were briefly disrupted after a powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Cuba and sent tremors across parts of Florida, including Orlando, where the national team is currently based.
The earthquake, which was recorded by the United States Geological Survey, occurred at a relatively shallow depth and was reportedly felt across a wide area of the southeastern United States.
Members of the England squad experienced the tremors while staying at their training base in Orlando as they continued final preparations for the World Cup.
Reports indicate that buildings in parts of the city were temporarily evacuated as a precaution after residents and visitors felt the ground shake.
Despite the unexpected incident, England players and coaching staff were unharmed. Team officials later confirmed that everyone within the camp was safe and that preparations would continue as planned.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located off Cuba’s western coastline, but its impact extended far beyond the island nation. Residents in cities including Miami and Tampa also reported feeling the tremors.
Some visitors at major tourist destinations, including Walt Disney World, also experienced the effects of the earthquake as authorities assessed the situation.
Emergency officials quickly moved to reassure the public, confirming that there was no tsunami threat linked to the quake.
Initial assessments also suggested there was no significant structural damage in Orlando or surrounding areas.
The incident adds an unexpected chapter to England’s World Cup preparations as the team gears up for football’s biggest tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
With safety concerns ruled out and normal activity restored, the focus within the England camp has now returned to training and final tactical preparations ahead of the tournament’s opening matches.
