PSG Beat Arsenal on Penalties to Win Back-to-Back Champions League Titles

Gabriel Magalhães Miss Costs Arsenal as PSG Make Champions League History

Paris Saint-Germain won the UEFA Champions League for the second straight season after defeating Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout in Budapest.

The French champions secured a 4-3 shootout victory after the match ended 1-1 following extra time.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães missed the decisive penalty when he blasted his effort over the crossbar, handing PSG another historic European triumph.

The result made PSG only the second club to win back-to-back Champions League titles.

The final was tightly contested from start to finish, with both sides struggling to find a breakthrough during normal time.

After the teams remained level through extra time, the match was decided from the penalty spot in front of a tense crowd in Budapest.

Arsenal made Champions League final history with just 24.7% possession, the lowest recorded in a final since 2004. What’s even more remarkable? The previous record for the lowest possession in a Champions League final also belongs to Arsenal, set back in 2006.

For Arsenal, the defeat extended their long wait for a first Champions League title.

The North London side recently ended a 22-year wait to win the Premier League, but European success continues to elude the club.

Despite the disappointment, Arsenal players will have little time to recover before shifting focus to international duty ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Midfielder Declan Rice revealed after the match that Arsenal had already played 63 games across all competitions this season.

Several players from both clubs are now expected to join their national teams for final World Cup preparations.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to begin in just 12 days in Mexico City.

The tournament, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature 104 matches across multiple cities in North America.

Football fans around the world are already anticipating another summer of high-pressure drama, especially after witnessing the tense penalty shootout in Budapest.
