Eriksen Reassures Fans Following Collapse During Denmark vs Ukraine
Christian Eriksen Focused on Recovery After Scare in Denmark Friendly
Christian Eriksen has reassured fans that he is recovering well after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine.
The 34-year-old midfielder spent the night in hospital following the incident, which forced the match in Odense to be abandoned after he collapsed in the 65th minute.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Eriksen confirmed that he is now at home with his family and that his recovery is already underway.
The Danish star thanked the players, medical staff and doctors who assisted him during and after the incident.
According to Eriksen, the situation was different from the cardiac arrest he suffered during the European Championship in 2021.
“As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major effect on both me and my family, but I want to assure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021,” he wrote.
Eriksen revealed that his Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) functioned exactly as intended and helped protect him during the medical emergency.
He expressed gratitude to the specialists who have monitored his heart condition over the years and credited their expertise for helping him continue his football career.
The midfielder was fitted with an ICD following his cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland, an incident that shocked the football world.
The device allowed him to return to professional football in 2022 with Brentford before later joining Manchester United. He currently plays for VfL Wolfsburg.
Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen confirmed that the ICD responded as expected during Sunday’s incident.
For now, Eriksen says his focus is on rest, spending time with his family and enjoying a holiday before returning to football activities.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of cardiac monitoring and emergency medical care in professional sports.
Despite the scare, Eriksen’s positive update has reassured supporters around the world who have been concerned about his health.
