Kuami Eugene Urges Artistes Not to Depend on TGMA

Kuami Eugene Speaks on TGMA Pressure in Music Industry

Kuami EugeneKuami Eugene has said that winning a Telecel Ghana Music Awards should not be seen as the only sign of success in Ghana’s music industry.

Speaking during an interview on MX24 on May 6, 2026, the singer explained that many artistes have built strong careers without depending on awards.

According to him, longevity and consistency are equally important in the industry.

“TGMA doesn’t define who’s doing better in the industry. There are some artistes who have been here for decades and they’re still doing well,” he said.

Kuami Eugene noted that some musicians continue to thrive even when they are not recognised on award nights.

He encouraged artistes not to feel disappointed if they fail to win trophies.

“Sometimes they forget if they’ve ever had a TGMA award before. It’s all good if you’re not the champion for that evening,” he stated.

The singer also urged fans to continue supporting musicians regardless of award results.

He explained that hard work should still be appreciated even when it does not lead to a win.

“Your fans should be proud of you because you’ve worked as hard as everyone,” he added.

His comments come as conversations around award recognition continue within Ghana’s entertainment industry.

Over the years, debates about nominations, winners, and industry validation have become a major part of the annual awards season.

Kuami Eugene’s remarks highlight a broader discussion about how success is measured in music, especially in an era where streaming numbers, fan engagement, touring, and digital influence also shape an artiste’s career.

The award-winning musician remains one of Ghana’s most recognised hitmakers, with multiple chart-topping songs and industry honours to his name.
