Singer Sista Afia Opens Up on Early Hustle and Life With Single Mother
Sista Afia Reveals She Started Working at 15 Despite Comfortable Home Upbringing
The Sista Afia independence story has drawn attention after Ghanaian musician Sista Afia revealed she began working and earning her own income at the age of 15, despite growing up in a financially stable home.
Speaking in an interview on Angel FM, the singer explained that her upbringing was shaped by discipline rather than financial comfort. She said her single mother, who owned several businesses and properties, deliberately raised her to be self-reliant instead of dependent.
According to her, she was exposed early to the value of hard work and responsibility. She noted that although her mother had achieved financial stability, she avoided overindulging her children, drawing from her own life experiences to instill resilience.
Sista Afia added that her last memory of receiving financial support from her mother was when she was 15 years old. From that point, she made a conscious decision to begin working and building her own independence without relying on anyone else.
She explained that her motivation was also influenced by her environment at the time, where many of her peers were already engaged in work and earning income. That reality pushed her to seek opportunities early rather than depend on family support.
The singer further revealed that her determination led her to take up a job as a bar attendant while still a teenager, marking the beginning of her journey toward financial independence and personal growth.
Her comments highlight a consistent theme in her story: a strong emphasis on self-reliance, shaped by upbringing, environment, and personal ambition, which she says continues to influence her mindset in the music industry today.
