The High Commission of Ghana High Commission in South Africa stated that the temporary suspension of new registrations will take effect from June 2, 2026, as officials work to process applications already received in collaboration with South African authorities.

The statement explained that the pause is necessary to ensure proper coordination between the High Commission and South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs, as the existing caseload is processed efficiently and securely.

The repatriation exercise follows a series of violent incidents targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, which have triggered concern among Ghanaian authorities and the diaspora community. In response, the government has already facilitated the return of about 300 citizens, with plans underway to evacuate approximately 600 more in the coming days.
