Haruna Iddrisu Revisits ‘Fake’ Adwoa Safo Case In Parliament

Education Minister Hints at Exposing Adwoa Safo’s Impersonator During E-Levy Vote

Adwoa Safo’s Impersonator During E-Levy VoteHaruna Iddrisu has indicated that he may soon disclose new details surrounding the long-running Adwoa Safo seat controversy linked to the 2021 budget vote in Ghana’s Parliament. The Minister of Education, speaking about his time as Minority Leader, suggested that the truth about the incident will eventually become public.

According to a March 9, 2026 report by 3news.com, Iddrisu said he possesses information about the identity of a woman who allegedly occupied the parliamentary seat of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo during a crucial vote on the national budget. Although he did not directly mention the MP’s name, he hinted that the person involved is aware of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During his remarks, Iddrisu suggested that the situation was more complex than what the public understood at the time. He explained that as Minority Leader, he chose not to disclose certain details because he wanted to protect the individual involved.

“Someday I’ll reveal to Ghanaians; I hear who was present, who was not present. That lady MP knows herself, who probably was not available to take a vote that particular day, certainly not Haruna Iddrisu,” he said, according to the report.

He further suggested that the MP involved had communicated with someone regarding the matter, though he indicated that he was not directly aware of that discussion at the time. Iddrisu explained that his priority as Minority Leader was to maintain stability within Parliament rather than publicly expose the situation.

The controversy dates back to November 2021 during the approval process for the 2021 Budget Statement and Fiscal Policy. At the time, Ghana’s Parliament was operating under a rare hung parliament arrangement, where both the governing party and the opposition held nearly equal numbers of seats.

Adwoa Safo’s Impersonator During E-Levy VoteBecause of this delicate balance, the presence or absence of a single Member of Parliament could significantly influence voting outcomes. During the debate and voting on the budget, observers noticed that the seat assigned to Sarah Adwoa Safo appeared to be occupied by a woman who many claimed was not the Dome-Kwabenya legislator.

The development quickly sparked intense debate across both social media platforms and traditional media outlets. Questions were raised about parliamentary procedures, attendance records and the integrity of the voting process during one of the most politically sensitive moments of the parliamentary term.

Despite the widespread public discussion, the matter was never fully clarified in official terms, leaving room for speculation about what had actually occurred on the floor of Parliament.

Iddrisu’s latest remarks have revived public interest in the episode. His suggestion that he may eventually disclose the full details has once again drawn attention to the political tensions that surrounded the 2021 budget vote and the broader implications of operating under a hung parliament.

As discussions continue, the incident remains one of the most debated moments in Ghana’s recent parliamentary history, highlighting how tightly balanced political numbers can amplify procedural disputes and public scrutiny.
