Samini Reunites With Former Mentees on New Album, ORIGIN8A
Samini Explains Featuring Former Mentees on ORIGIN8A Album
Ghanaian dancehall icon Samini has revealed the inspiration behind featuring his former mentees, Stonebwoy, Kofi Kinaata, and Kaakie, on his latest album, ORIGIN8A. In an interview on 3Music Network, shared via X, Samini emphasized that the collaborations reflect his impact on the Ghanaian music industry.
Samini explained that ORIGIN8A, his eighth studio album with 18 tracks, is a narrative about his journey and influence as a mentor. “Yes! It all comes together so you understand the story of where we are coming from,” he said, highlighting his role in nurturing new talents while maintaining his own consistency in the industry.
The Meaning Behind ORIGIN8A
The album’s title, ORIGIN8A, is a deliberate nod to his enduring presence in Ghanaian music. Samini said the project reminds both longtime fans and newer audiences that his contributions laid the foundation for current stars. “History has to know that we do things, and then people come, and they have to learn. So when you get the chance to reaffirm and renounce whatever it is, you have to make sure you do it in the right manner,” he explained.
He continued, “So, this being my eighth album, I thought I’d remind those who just know me, and those who have recently gotten to know me, that it’s been a long time coming. I’m an originator of something that’s here, and it has come to stay.”
The album features collaborations that not only showcase his past mentees’ talents but also celebrate the evolution and growth of Ghanaian music, reinforcing Samini’s influence as a pioneering figure in the industry.
