Controversy Erupts in Ghana Over Russian Content Creator’s Videos

Controversy Erupts in Ghana Over Russian Content Creator’s VideosA Russian content creator, Vyacheslav Trahov, identified as Yaitseslav, Yatseslav or Yaitseslav Shurupov has become the subject of intense online scrutiny in Ghana after videos surfaced showing his filmed encounters with several Ghanaian women in Accra.

The tourist-turned-adult content creator is facing intense scrutiny after videos surfaced showing him approaching women, primarily in Accra, initiating conversations and allegedly recording the interactions without their consent using Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses.

Several videos published on his TikTok and YouTube platforms show him engaging women in public spaces, including shopping areas around Accra Mall. In some instances, he is seen requesting phone numbers, with certain videos later depicting meetings at his private residence.

The footage is edited into summary-style content and uploaded to his public pages. Social media users claim there are approximately 60 such videos involving Ghanaian women across his platforms.

Beyond his public accounts, the Russian vlogger reportedly operates a private Telegram subscription channel, charging between 400 and 1,000 Russian Rubles (approximately $5 to $13) per month. Subscribers are promised exclusive content not posted on YouTube, personal dating statistics, financial breakdowns of dates and living expenses, comparative commentary on women in different cities and countries, and the opportunity to ask him questions directly. Both subscription tiers reportedly grant one month of access.

Controversy Erupts in Ghana Over Russian Content Creator’s VideosSome critics have likened the model to subscription-based content platforms, where followers gain access to extended footage, including recordings allegedly taken inside his apartment and additional details about his interactions.

One widely circulated video reportedly shows a woman identified as Angela, whom he met at a mall, later appearing at his residence. The clip has intensified discussions about privacy, consent, and the monetisation of recorded interactions.

The situation has triggered strong reactions online, with many questioning whether the women involved were fully aware of how the recordings would be used. Some netizens have called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate potential breaches of privacy and possible exploitation.

Others allege that similar content has been produced by the same creator in countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Russia, Italy, and the United States.

Growing Debate on Consent and Digital Ethics

The controversy has sparked broader national conversations about digital ethics, informed consent, and the responsibilities of foreign content creators operating within Ghana.

As discussions continue, many social media users are urging authorities to clarify whether any laws have been violated and to ensure that individuals’ rights to privacy and dignity are protected.

The unfolding situation remains one of the most widely discussed topics across Ghana’s online space. Watch the videos here.
