Nollywood Actor Alexx Ekubo Dies After Reported Illness
His family described him as a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend.

Popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke, widely known as Alexx Ekubo, has reportedly died at the age of 40 after battling an illness.
According to information shared by his family, the actor passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, after being hospitalised at Evercare Hospital due to complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He reportedly spent several hours on life support before his death.
His family described him as a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Anulika Amakom Ekubo.
The news was first made public by filmmaker and talent manager Sam Olatunji, who confirmed the development in a Facebook post.
Born on April 10, 1986, Alexx Ekubo rose to prominence as one of Nollywood’s most recognised actors through his roles in films such as Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, and A Sunday Affair.
Before his acting breakthrough, he emerged as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition.

In 2020, he was named among the Most Influential People of African Descent under 40 by the United Nations in recognition of his contributions to entertainment and social development.
In recent months, fans had expressed concern over his absence from social media. His last Instagram post was shared on December 30, 2024, sparking speculation about his health and wellbeing.
Following news of his passing, tributes began pouring in from colleagues and fans across the entertainment industry.
Veteran actress Funke Akindele mourned the actor in a message shared on her Instagram Story.
“I really tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex,” she wrote.
Actress Kate Henshaw also paid tribute on social media as condolences continued to spread online.
At the time of publication, the family had not released additional details regarding funeral arrangements.
