Diddy Found Guilty on Two Federal Counts, Faces Up to 20 Years

Sean “Diddy” Combs Convicted on Prostitution Charges, Acquitted on Racketeering

Sean Diddy Combs convicted in federal court

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the federal Mann Act. The verdict was delivered by a jury in New York on Wednesday, concluding a high-profile case involving allegations of abuse, coercion, and criminal conspiracy.

Combs, 55, was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. He now faces up to 20 years in prison for the two prostitution-related convictions, with each count carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years.

When the verdict was read in court, Combs reacted emotionally, kneeling in prayer before turning to his family, who responded with applause and cheers.

Combs’ legal team immediately pushed for his release ahead of sentencing, citing his lack of prior convictions and arguing he posed no flight risk. Prosecutors opposed the motion, requesting continued detention. Judge Arun Subramanian has asked for written arguments from both sides and is expected to rule soon.

The case stems from a 2024 grand jury indictment that originally charged Combs with three counts. Additional charges were added in April, bringing the total to five. The jury ultimately found him guilty on two of the five counts.

Charges Faced by Combs:

  • Count 1: Racketeering conspiracy—Not guilty
  • Count 2: Sex trafficking (Cassie Ventura)—Not guilty
  • Count 3: Transportation for prostitution (Cassie Ventura)—Guilty
  • Count 4: Sex trafficking (“Jane”) – Not guilty
  • Count 5: Transportation for prostitution (“” Jane”)—Guilty

The Mann Act, which forms the basis of Combs’ conviction, criminalizes the transportation of individuals across state lines for purposes of prostitution.

The prosecution’s case portrayed Combs as the central figure in a criminal enterprise that used his music empire and inner circle to abuse women and suppress accountability.

Graphic Testimonies

Central to the trial were graphic testimonies from former partners, including R&B singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. Ventura alleged she was forced into drug-fueled sexual encounters referred to by Combs as “freak-offs.” She detailed physical abuse and a 2016 assault caught on surveillance footage.

Another witness, referred to as “Jane” for anonymity, testified about similar coercive experiences. She described orchestrated “hotel nights” in which she felt pressured to engage in sex acts while Combs watched.

Combs’ lawyers countered by arguing that all encounters were consensual and that the prosecution exaggerated private lifestyle choices into criminal acts. The defense did not present witnesses but relied on aggressive cross-examination.

Sentencing Awaits

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik labelled Sean Diddy Combs as the orchestrator of a long-running scheme of abuse and intimidation, claiming he used employees to carry out and cover up his actions. “He thought his fame and power put him above the law,” she told jurors.

In contrast, defense attorney Marc Agnifilo dismissed the racketeering claims, saying, “He did not do the things he’s charged with.”

Sean Diddy Combs, arrested last September, has been in custody at a federal detention centre in Brooklyn. Judge Subramanian is weighing arguments over whether he should remain detained or be released pending sentencing.

The court is set to reconvene this afternoon. The sentencing date is yet to be announced.
