Deborah Seyram Adablah Sentenced to 45 Days in Prison for Contempt in ‘Sugar Daddy’ Legal Saga
The High Court in Accra has sentenced Deborah Seyram Adablah, a former National Service personnel, to 45 days in prison after finding her guilty of contempt of court.
The conviction follows a series of social media videos in which Adablah defamed the judiciary and accused the presiding judge of bias during her much-publicized legal battle with Ernest Kwesi Nimako, a former Chief Finance Officer at a major bank.
The court ruled that her actions—particularly the publication of a video accusing the judge of partiality—amounted to contempt and posed a serious threat to the integrity of the judicial process. Subsequently, a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
Shortly after the warrant became public, Adablah released another video expressing her intent to surrender to authorities. In a separate livestream reportedly broadcast from the court complex, she was seen conversing with security personnel while preparing for her transfer to Nsawam Prison, with her phone capturing the entire scene.
The Legal Background
Adablah gained national attention in 2023 when she filed a lawsuit against Nimako, accusing him of breach of promise, sexual harassment, and failure to fulfill financial obligations, including monthly allowances, rent, a car, and medical expenses.
However, the court dismissed the case, stating that the relationship between the two parties was morally and legally unenforceable. According to Graphic.com.gh, the court held that the promises made were part of an arrangement that facilitated “fornication,” which is not protected under Ghanaian contract law.
“No valid legal cause of action can be based on immoral acts,” the ruling emphasized, dismissing Adablah’s demands for financial support and benefits.
Adablah’s imprisonment marks a dramatic turn in one of Ghana’s most sensational personal legal disputes, raising important questions about social media conduct, freedom of expression, and respect for judicial authority.
The court’s stance reinforces that legal boundaries must be respected, even in the age of viral content and digital expression.
