Abambahemaa Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma Shot Dead
Queen Mother Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma Murder Sparks Outrage
The Atebubu shooting incident that claimed the life of Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma, the Abambahemaa of the Abamba Traditional Area, has sent shockwaves through the community, with police now investigating what appears to be a targeted attack. The queen mother, widely known as Ohemaa of Ohemaa’s Kitchen, was shot dead shortly after returning home from her eatery.
According to a report by adomonline.com on February 26, 2026, the attack occurred as she arrived at her residence with a colleague. Sources say she had been cautious in recent weeks due to security concerns in the area. However, shortly after reaching her home, she was ambushed while attempting to enter her room.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before residents rushed outside and found her lying in a pool of blood on her front porch. She was allegedly shot about five times, sustaining injuries to her hands, back and head. The colleague who accompanied her narrowly escaped and raised the alarm, drawing attention to the unfolding tragedy.
Initial speculation suggested a possible robbery. However, valuables including her handbag, an iPhone 17 and other personal belongings were reportedly left untouched at the scene. This detail has strengthened suspicions that the killing may have been deliberate rather than opportunistic.
Witnesses said they saw two unidentified men fleeing immediately after the shooting. Personnel from the Ghana Police Service later arrived, secured the scene and conveyed the body to the morgue. A Ghana Police investigation is now underway, with authorities working to track down the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack.
Residents of Atebubu have expressed deep grief over the loss of the traditional leader, describing her as a prominent and respected figure within the community. Many are calling for swift action to ensure those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
As the investigation continues, the killing of Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma has raised broader concerns about security within the Abamba Traditional Area. For now, authorities say efforts remain focused on gathering evidence and pursuing leads in what has become one of the most disturbing targeted attack Ghana has witnessed in recent months.
