Benni McCarthy eyes CHAN glory after Kenya’s 2-1 victory over Chad

McCarthy’s First Win as Harambee Stars Coach Sparks New Hope for Kenya’s Football Future

Benni McCarthy eyes CHAN glory after Kenya’s 2-1 victory over ChadBenni McCarthy has registered his first win as Harambee Stars head coach, and he’s hoping it’s just the beginning.

Kenya edged past Chad with a 2-1 victory in an international friendly held in Morocco on Tuesday—a significant moment for the South African tactician, who was winless in his first three matches in charge.

McCarthy was quick to laud his players, both veterans and new call-ups.

“The boys were fantastic. Every player in camp gave their all and truly deserved this win,” he said.
“We furnished more clinically, especially in the final third, during our final training session yesterday.

The former Manchester United assistant coach made nine changes to the starting XI that was held to a 0-0 draw by Chad just three days earlier.

Players like Moses Shumah, Boniface Muchiri, Adam Wilson, Daniel Sakari, and Brian Mandela were all rested, giving room to new talent.

McCarthy’s risk paid off, showing depth in the squad and flexibility in tactics.

The coach was full of praise for the fresh faces, who didn’t disappoint on the pitch.

“We’re building something strong here… giving minutes to international players so that local players can build on that experience,” said McCarthy.
“If we stick to the good football we play, we’ll give Kenyans more to celebrate, more victories, and more pride in the national team.”

Emmanuel Osoro, current FKF Premier League top scorer and FC Talanta star, opened the scoring, followed by David Sakwa of Bandari.

Both were full of praise for McCarthy’s tactical style.

“The coach is a father figure to us, and we’re enjoying his tactics,” said Osoro.
“We trained hard after missing chances in the last game. Today, we were more clinical.”

“Scoring for Kenya was a dream come true,” added Sakwa. “This is a young, hungry squad. Kenyans should believe in us.”

With the African Nations Championship (CHAN) approaching in August—co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—this win gives Harambee Stars the momentum they need.
