Ghana Bids Farewell to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings at State FuneralA solemn state funeral is being held today, Friday, November 28, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra to honour the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The ceremony has drawn key national leaders, dignitaries, members of the clergy, and hundreds of mourners who have gathered to pay tribute to the pioneering stateswoman.

President John Mahama, who announced the government’s decision to accord her a state funeral, is in attendance with his wife, Lordina Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, senior government officials, and former appointees.

Also present are former President Nana Akufo-Addo and his wife, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Samira Bawumia, and former President John Agyekum Kufuor, joining the congregation to pay their final respects.

Members of the Rawlings family are seated at the front, including the children of the late former First Lady.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a long-standing advocate for women’s empowerment and social justice. She passed away on October 23, 2025, prompting three days of national mourning during which flags were flown at half-mast across the country.

Today’s funeral marks the culmination of weeks of tributes nationwide, reflecting her decades-long influence in Ghanaian politics, her work through the 31st December Women’s Movement, and her legacy as one of the country’s most consequential first ladies.
