Jordan Ayew Confident in Black Stars Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Jordan Ayew Says Ghana Improving Ahead of 2026 Tournament
Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed confidence in Ghana’s progress ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pointing to improved unity within the squad as a key reason for optimism. The forward believes the team’s recent performances show that the group is steadily growing stronger.
Speaking in an interview with Adom Sports, Ayew reflected on Ghana’s strong finish in the World Cup qualifiers, where the team recorded five victories and one draw in their final six matches. The run of results helped secure qualification for the global tournament.
According to the Ghana captain, the squad has not had extensive time together on the training ground, but the chemistry among players has continued to improve with each international window.
“I believe we have a good team, and as time goes on we are improving. We haven’t had much time to train together, but the unity is getting better and everything is improving,” he said.
Ayew also backed the group of players who played key roles during the qualification campaign. In his view, the performances of the current squad show that major additions may not be necessary as the team prepares for the tournament.
“I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well. I don’t think we need any additions,” he added.
Ghana have been drawn into Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside England, Panama and Croatia. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across host nations the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Despite his confidence in the existing squad, Ayew acknowledged that the final decisions about player selection will rest with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo. He noted that any new players considered for the team must demonstrate the same level of commitment shown by the current group.
“Whoever is added must be ready to give their all and put on a show,” he said.
Ghana are set to begin their World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto before facing England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia. The fixtures will test the Black Stars against a mix of European and international competition as they aim to progress from the group stage.
