Nollywood actor Clinton Joshua Ezewele has revealed why he deliberately avoids kissing scenes in movies, describing the decision as part of a broader strategy to protect his range as an actor.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, he said the choice is driven by concerns about typecasting in Nollywood. According to him, actors who become known for specific roles often find themselves repeatedly cast in similar parts.
He explained that once producers identify a pattern, they tend to replicate it. For him, that creates a risk of being limited to a narrow character profile.
“I don’t kiss in films because this is Nollywood and I feel like when you’re doing that and they see that you’re good at something, producers would likely give you the same role over and over again,” he said.
His approach is focused on long-term positioning. By avoiding certain scenes, he aims to maintain flexibility and remain open to a wider range of roles.
He added that the decision also reflects how he wants to be perceived on screen. Rather than building a reputation around romantic roles, he is choosing to shape a more balanced acting profile.
“I didn’t want to be boxed in a certain way. I didn’t want to half the girls in Nollywood, so I decided not to do it at all,” he stated.
Beyond acting, Clinton Joshua is also expanding into film production. He said the transition was influenced by a mentor who encouraged him to explore the next phase of his career.
