President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointment of Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) following rising concerns over her lack of a valid medical license to practise in Ghana.
In a formal statement from the Office of the President, the government confirmed the immediate nomination of Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke as Daly’s replacement. Relevant authorities have been instructed to proceed with Prof. Yorke’s swearing-in to ensure continuity at the NHIA.
Though the official notice did not cite specific reasons, government insiders reveal the decision followed public uproar and scrutiny from health sector professionals who questioned Daly’s qualifications. Critics had expressed discontent over her alleged misrepresentation as a medical doctor, despite not being licensed by the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana.

Health stakeholders welcomed the move, calling it a step toward restoring confidence in the governance of the NHIA, a crucial institution responsible for managing the country’s health insurance system, which impacts millions of Ghanaians.
Prof. Ernest Yorke, the current Vice President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), is widely respected for his deep knowledge of Ghana’s healthcare ecosystem. His appointment is expected to bring credibility, professional integrity, and renewed direction to the NHIA Board.
