Otto Addo Joins Football Legends on FIFA World Cup Study GroupOtto Addo has secured a major role at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after FIFA confirmed his appointment to the tournament’s Technical Study Group (TSG).

The former Ghana coach will join a panel of respected football figures responsible for analysing every match during the competition.

The Technical Study Group plays a key role at the World Cup. Members study tactical systems, player performances, team structures, transitions, pressing styles, and set-piece strategies throughout the tournament.

Their findings are later published in FIFA technical reports used by coaches, academies, and football federations around the world.

Addo’s appointment comes months after his departure from the Ghana national football team job.

The German-born coach guided the Black Stars to consecutive FIFA World Cup qualifications. However, following disappointing results during the March international window, the Ghana Football Association decided to part ways with him.

Carlos Queiroz was later appointed as Ghana’s new head coach ahead of the tournament.

Despite leaving the dugout, Addo will still have a close connection to the competition. He is expected to monitor matches across the tournament, including games involving Ghana in Group L.

Beyond tactical analysis, members of the Technical Study Group also help decide major individual awards at the World Cup.

These include the Golden Ball for the best player, the Golden Boot for the top scorer, the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper, and the Best Young Player award.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19 across North America and is expected to be one of the biggest editions in the tournament’s history.
